You've heard all about a person's genetic makeup and you have probably been reading or hearing about the human genome a lot lately, but have you ever wondered what a genome really looks like ?
First off, consider a few points on how genetics has been advancing:
That is a tremendous advance in a realtively short period of time. To help anyone considering consumer genetic testing and to help understand some of the 'biology of the 21st century' as genomics has been called, we have put together some sample information and a blog for you.
Communications Director Mike Spear has had his own genome sequenced by 3 commercial companies and is making the results and his thoughts available here on the Genome Alberta site.
You can start by looking at a combined analysis of the V2 23andMe data and the original deCode data using Promethease and the SNPedia database, then move on to his Mikenomics Blog .
If you want to look at the raw data as delivered by the 2 companies you can download the .zip files for 23andMe and deCODE. Please note that these are large files so you should be patient and have a good Internet connection. If you encounter any problem please contact Mike Spear.
Finally you can look at the summary that deCODE provides and a compilation of the 23andMe summary data. 23andME does not seem to offer a nice neat downloadable report so this is a cut and paste collection of parts of the Clinical and Research Reports.
