Celebrating WomenInSTEM

I saw a tweet from Hayley Todesco, a previous Genome Alberta award winner, informing me that today is #WomenInSTEM day. Genome Alberta has recognized a significant number of young women scientists over the past ten years.

In a blog from 2007, we recognized eventual Canada-Wide science fair winner Emily Cooley along with eight other young scientists. We provided a platform through the opportunity to submit guest blogs to our winners. Here are links to some of these:

We also provided a platform for these young women in STEM to explain their award winning projects on YouTube:

Chloe Devoy - Detection of Antibiotic Resistant E. coli in Retail Meat

Calista Wright and Madison Fleming - Bacteria in Ice

Taylor Ormann and Janine Nel - Testing Antimicrobial Properties within Animal Saliva

Prashi Shah - MOAP-1 as a Regulator of Inflammation in the Colon

Brielle Lillywhite - Fight the Bite - Will they Choose Dark or Light?

Rebecca Todesco - Proteolytic enzymes and Alternaria alternata

Kelcie Miller-Anderson - Trehalose: A Novel Stem cell Cryoprotectant

Genome Alberta is again sponsoring science fair awards in 2016. You can expect to see more significant young #WomenInSTEM on our blog pages.
